“Take a seat
on the edge
of now…”
An Oasis of Lyrical Sculpture
Incanto is a journey through a sculptural epic poem embraced by nature. Immersive sculptures symbolically explore deep concepts for human connection and healing. They transform at night as illuminated set pieces, inviting visitors to return and experience the sculptures anew.
Art As Allegory:
Experienced together, these artworks symbolically explore deep concepts inspired by : observing humanity’s imbalance with nature; finding healing through connection with others; experiencing how struggle shapes and evolves identity; discovering a grounding connection to spirit; and appreciating the present moment on our journey of life.
Each sculpture’s concept was was conceived with intentions to invite the visitor into a deeper space of self-inquiry within the safe container of the natural world. Some works will form gathering spaces; some are symbolic portals to pass through, and others will invite stillness and meditation. All sculptures have custom accompanied intention signage and a corresponding poem, in dialogue with the artwork.
Background:
Incanto was originally produced by sculpture artist Kate Raudenbush and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. It was first exhibited in Richmond, Virginia in 2023, with guest artist, poet Sha Michele. Conceived during the deeply introspective times of the pandemic, it encapsulates the artist’s most personal, thought provoking and transcendent work to date. Through the experience of intentional immersive art, we hope to open ourselves to a deeper expression of what it means to be human.
For a presentation document with logistics overview:
Incanto’s sculptures are available for exhibition,
as a whole or in part, in botanical gardens, sculpture parks
and private institutions worldwide.
Sculpture Materials:
The five monumental sculptures are created of laser cut mixed metals of stainless and corten steel, brass & bronze. Accents in geometric etched glass, meditation benches of reclaimed NYC water-tower redwood, 3D printed glowing spear tips, and hammered mirrored stairs hosting a cascading waterfall, all encode small poetic details within the larger spaces. Light is the unique additional sculptural element that transforms the sculptures and the energy of the space after sunset.
